Yourstory Therapy offers in-person counselling in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Full location details are shared once an initial appointment is arranged to protect client privacy. The practice is easily accessible from surrounding areas including Newtownabbey, Antrim and Carrickfergus.
I also offer online sessions via Zoom . Due to insurance, legal and professional regulatory requirements, I’m only able to work with clients based in the UK and Ireland.
3
Can I book an appointment for a friend or relative?
No. All bookings will need to be made by the individual seeking therapy.
This is to confirm their consent and protect their confidentiality.
4
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions will depend on your individual needs, goals and areas you would like to work on. However, as a general guide we would review your therapy every 6-8 sessions.
5
How often should I attend?
Therapy usually takes place weekly. During your assessment appointment we will agree a regular date and time that suits. There may be times clients require flexibility due to financial constraints, working shift patterns or when approaching the end of their therapy - fortnightly sessions and flexibility can be considered in session.
6
What is Neuro-Affirming Therapy?
Neuro-Affirming Therapy provides a safe space for you to explore some of your Neurodivergent traits and how they show up in your life.
Difficulties can be explored through a Neurodivergent lens, with understanding and consideration for how your unique issues are experienced as a Neurodivergent adult.
A tailored approach with each client means their individual needs are the focus.
7
What should I expect in my first session?
Your first session is an assessment appointment. During this session I will take some personal details and you can share your main issues. We will also discuss a counselling contract and make sure I am well placed to support you. It should last around 50 minutes.
8
What if I cannot attend my appointment?
I ask for 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged at the full rate.
9
Is everything we discuss confidential?
Information that you share will be kept confidential and for the purposes for which you have provided it. With the exception of the following:
-
There are concerns relating to harm to yourself or to others.
-
There are risks indicated to children or vulnerable people.
-
There is a disclosure of criminal activity.
10
I'm not really sure what is wrong - can I still come to therapy?
Absolutely. You do not need to have a specific problem or diagnosis or formal label around your issues. Many clients attend therapy simply seeking some clarity, personal growth or support.
11
Do you work with children & young people?
No. Although I have training in working with children and young people I currently offer therapy to adults only.
12
Can I bring a family member or friend with me?
Counselling usually takes place on a 1-1 basis only. You can certainly bring someone to wait in the waiting area provided, if that is helpful.
At present I do not offer couples counselling or family therapy.

Do you offer any training or workshops?
Yes I provide bespoke training around managing anxiety and wellbeing for adults. Sessions can be adapted to suit the specific needs of your team or organisation. If you would like to explore options or discuss further then please get in touch.
